IT PAYS TO RIDESHARE: Ride in a vanpool and receive up to $300 or drive and earn $500
What is a vanpool? A vanpool is any vehicle designed for carrying more than 7 but no more than 15 persons (including the driver) which is used primarily for work-related transportation for the purpose of rideshare. The group divides the cost of monthly van rentals, gas, insurance, and/or other costs among themselves. Vanpool vehicles may be employer owned, privately owned, or leased from a vendor.
Vanpool Rewards Program: Commuters who live or work in San Mateo County and start or join a new vanpool may qualify for rewards. Drivers of a new vanpool can earn a $500 reward. Vanpool riders can be reimbursed 50% of their out-of-pocket costs of their vanpool seat, up to $100 per month for the first three months in the vanpool ($300 total). Commuters may choose to be rewarded by check or through our Tango Card e-gift card service (offering 70+ retailer options). Vanpoolers must choose between the Vanpool Driver Reward or the Vanpool Rider Reimbursement. Vanpoolers cannot receive both. These are one-time offers per participant. Please follow these instructions on how to join and get rewarded.
Rules of eligibility: To qualify, the vanpool must have a San Mateo County origin or destination with at least seven participants and commute three or more days each week. Participants cannot have received a previous vanpool reward from Commute.org. Vanpool rewards must be claimed within one year of joining a vanpool. Only one driver per vanpool qualifies for the Vanpool Driver Reward. Proof of payment must be received within 30 days of claiming the reward.
Interested in joining a vanpool? If you are looking to join an existing vanpool, use our Trip Planner, check the 511 RideMatch System, or email us at email@example.com . Benefits of joining a vanpool include:
• Saving money on gas, tolls, and car costs
• Using HOV lanes and reducing travel time
• Improving air quality and traffic
• Qualifying for Commute.org's Guaranteed Ride Home program (for those who work in San Mateo County)
Free bridge tolls - Vanpools with 11-15 passengers that register with the Bay Area Vanpool Program get toll free passage on the Bay Area's seven state-owned toll bridges.
Owner-operated vanpool seat subsidy - Vanpool drivers or coordinators may apply for a seat subsidy after losing riders in an owner-operated vanpool. The program provides financial support during the time when the vanpool group is seeking to fill the vacant seat by offering a $100 gas card seat subsidy.
Commute.org reserves the right at its sole discretion to determine eligibility of any participant, and may change, modify or discontinue the Vanpool Rider Reimbursement Program and/or the Vanpool Rider Rewards Program without notice, at any time, and for any reason including but not limited to a loss of, or change in, funding. Each participant shall indemnify, defend and hold harmless Commute.org, City/County Association of Governments of San Mateo County (C/CAG), the San Mateo County Transportation Authority (TA), the Bay Area Air Quality Management District (BAAQMD) and their respective officers, directors, agents and employees against any and all suits, claims, or actions arising out of any injury to persons or property that may occur, or that may be alleged to have occurred, in the course of their participation in this Vanpool Rewards Program caused by an act or omission of the indemnifying participant.
